After using a blade type razor for the last 60 years or so (I'm 82) my facial skin has gotten very thin. The blade cuts so close (even though it's a 5 blade safety type) that my face turns red in spots. I know an electric model can't cut THAT close so I figured it would be easier on my skin. Read everything I could find on the electric razors of today. Reviews on all brands and models. After all my research it came down to 2 Brands and models. The Panasonic Arc5 and the Braun 9 Series. Both expensive but will last a long time so I didn'tcare. Even though the Arc5 was said to shave the closest by reviewers, I chose the Braun as the reviewers said it was a more comfortable shave than the Arc5 and almost as close. I've been using the Braun for about a month now and I did the right thing for me. No the shaves not as close as a blade but my face is in much better shape now. The razor is wet or dry and is really easy to clean. I just run the head unter running water and the stubble flushes out. Give your beard time to adjust to the electric, maybe a month as the hairs will stand-up straighter for a quicker shave. Long story short, I'd buy it again.

I had an old Braun shaver that I had for probably 15 years before replacing it with this one. I screwed up with my old shaver and jammed some of the metal, making it unrepairable. But for that, I would probably still have the old one. This one really works. Definitely cuts closer and does a nice job on several days of beard growth. Sometimes still need to clean things up on my neck, particularly when not shaving for more than a couple of days. But this thing is definitely better than the old shaver. I haven't really messed with the cleaning solution and all that stuff. Candidly I wish there was a very that didn't come with all that stuff and was 50 bucks cheaper.

This is my 3rd Braun razor, and is the best so far, in my opinion. It uses the same cleaning solution container as my 15 year old Series 3, which saved me a few bucks. I use it primarily to shave my head, typically every 1 or 2 days. It shaves smoother and closer than my 5 blade manual razor, with less irritation. The new head module is well designed, with no pinch points that I've found. This is also the most I've paid for a Braun, but it's a much more up-scale razor. I'm very satisfied with this purchase, and recommend it highly.

Closest and smoothest shave I’ve ever gotten from an electric shaver by far. If you want the best electric shaver then look no further. This thing got even closer of a shave than my regular manual razor blade. The thing that sets this apart from the other shavers like ARC 6 is that this one is way more comfortable to use. Overall I believe this is the best electric shaver in the world if you take into fact the comfort and quality of each shave. Fantastic results, also love the charging station and cleaning. All together I think this is worth getting if you’re looking to replace messy normal shaving.

I've been using a Braun Series 9 shaver since December, 2016. Around that same time, I also got a Panasonic Arc 5 ES-LV95-s shaver. One was free; it's a long story as to how that happened, but I kept both. I used each one for a while, switching back and forth every few months for no other reason than variety and comparison. Eventually, I settled on the Braun permanently. CLOSENESS: I'd say it's a draw here. I've read reviews from people claiming the Panasonic Arc 5 shaves a bit closer. That wasn't the case for me, although for other people, it's certainly possible, even probable, as faces and skin differs. Both shavers gave me the same closeness. I used to shave with a blade many years ago, before shaving with electric shavers for many years after. I think I can say with authority that I don't think an electric shaver exists that shaves as close as a blade, but both the Braun Series 9 and the Panasonic Arc 5 come extremely close, certainly close enough for all intents and purposes. All I know is, when I'm finished shaving with the Braun, my skin is smoooooooooooth. COMFORT: I give Braun the edge here. The Braun is smooth and glides across my face, whereas the Panasonic seems to drag a bit, sometimes even catching and pinching. This is the main reason I went with the Braun permanently. I should note here that I do NOT wash my face before shaving with the Braun; the instructions and the online tips even suggest to shave BEFORE washing. I found that if I shave with the Braun after showering, the smoothness is reduced. Perhaps using a foam or gel would help; I use neither. CLEANING: Both shavers come with a cleaning/charging unit. Put the shaver in, press the button. However, I give Braun the nod in this category. For the Panasonic unit, you pour the contents of a small liquid detergent packet into the cleaning reservoir, add water, and slide the reservoir into the cleaning/charging unit. The Braun unit uses a cleaning liquid cartridge that slides into the cleaning/charging unit. For me, this is a lot more convenient. Granted, the cartridges may be more expensive, but I find the ease of the cartridge makes the extra cost worth it. However, I can't argue against the cheaper price and ease of storage of the packets for the Panasonic. For the Braun, I do brush out the whiskers from the shaver and blades, and rinse the blades in water, before I put the shaver in the cleaning unit, but I don't believe it is necessary. I won't get into any of the technical differences, because they don't matter, as far as I'm concerned. I don't care which shaver's blades has the higher cycles per minute; this results in closeness and comfort which I reviewed above. COMMENTS: I don't shave every day. In fact, I generally shave every 3 days. By then, the whiskers are long and abundant. If I did shave every day, perhaps that would make a difference in closeness and comfort. I've always found, with an electric shaver, that I get a closer shave with any given shaver after 2 or 3 days than I do after just one day. I do not use a pre-shave foam, gel, or lotion/liquid, although this model Braun is compatible with a gel or foam. I'm not sure about lotion/liquid. I wouldn't recommend a pre-shave lotion. I used to use it years ago, and as far as I'm concerned, it's much too greasy/oily. I'd have to wash my hands after applying it to my face and before shaving, for no other reason than to keep the shaver body from getting mucky. An after shave is a must for me. Through the years, I've used Braun, Panasonic, and Norelco shavers. Braun is my final choice.

For years I've used my Braun Series 7 to get 90% of my beard and a razor for my neck and other difficult spots. I just got my new series 9 and I no longer need a razor. Under the neck? check. 9/10 tough spots? check. Even the tough spots are good unless you're looking for imperfections. Only razor I will need going forward as long as you clean it. WOW

Shaves as close as a straight razor although expensive. Cleaning and charging system is easy to use and effective. Looking to many good years with this shaver.

Shaves better than my last two electric shavers.
